Here is a picture that Kiersten will love us for when she gets older. Not only is she in the bath tub but we put little horns on her with the shampoo.

Well, Brian came through and had a little birthday celebration. He had it on Tuesday because of everything that we had to do on my birthday. But he made his first cake, how sweet of him. Check out how it turned out!!

NO MORE LIFESTYLE/NO MORE BIRTHDAYS

Filed under: Uncategorized — Wrote by mom on Tuesday, May 27th, 2003 @ 12:38 pm

NO MORE LIFESTYLE FITNESS FOR US!!! On Friday I went to go work out and enjoy sometime to myself, thinking that Kiersten would be in good hands with the staff at Lifestyle, the fitness club that Brian and I had just joined the night before. After my Yoga class, I decided to do the stepping machine for some more exercise. When I was half way through the workout, the person from the daycare came up to me and asked if I had a daughter in the playcenter. I said “yes”, she then proceeded by asking if I could follow her, I quickly asked if Kiersten was ok, she said, you will see. So I dashed over to the play center where I saw Kiersten just screaming at the tomp of her lungs. I immediatly grabbed her from the lady’s arms and tried to console her. Then I asked what happened? I guess appearently Kiersten was in a swing sound asleep and some kid went up in bit her IN THE EYE!!!! The daycare attendent had moved the infant swing from it’s original area into the area where the big kids were playing. She was on the other side of the room from Kiersten when she watched this little boy about one walk right up to her. “I thought he was going to give her a kiss” was her excuse. My comment back is why would you let a child come that close to a three month old anyways.

But after going to the doctors to make sure that her eye was ok, and after 2 hours of constant screaming, she turned out to be fine. The swelling has gone down and there is no infection. Just a lot of anger towards the daycare center at Lifestyle. I mean I understand that kids will be kids and things like this will happen, but this incident could have been prevented by the daycare attendent if she would have been doing her job and followed the rules that she was suppose to.

So after a lot of thought, Brian and I decided that we would not be comfortable leaving Kiersten there anymore and since that was the whole reason why we choose that club, we decided to terminate the contract. Luckily it was srill within the 3 day grace period, and we could cancel and get all of our money back. So as far as a place to workout, we are going to go to the YMCA. They have a good workout place, great classes, but most of all a great playcenter for Kiersten with competent and certified people to take care of her while I am working out. It is also ideal for when she gets older. There is so much for her to do there. We are quite excited about the change and quite happpy that we are confident in the people taking care of her.

Yesterday was my birthday, 26 on the 26th. Wow, can’t believe that I am over half way done with my 20’s. Seems like yesterday that I was still living on Niagra riding my green big wheel in the alley behind my house, and following my big bro around everywhere. Seems to go by quickly. I hope that Kiersten cherishes her childhood a lot more than I did, but then again my mom always tried to get me to do that to and it didn’t work. Seems like all your childhood you want to be older, and then all of your adulthood, you want to be younger. It’s funny how that happens. But anyways not much happened on my birthday, many people actually forgot about it, atleast until later in the night. but it was a holdiday, so I figured that would happen. No birthday cake or special dinner, or even many happy birthdays. When you have a child, the focus goes to them instead of you on special occaisons like your birthday. Funny how that happens.

Daycare - kinda

I always wondered how Kiersten would do in a daycare setting since we have spoiled her so much by always holding her, well yesterday Brian and I went to Lifestyle Family Fitness to go and workout and to see if we wanted to join the club. We really liked the club, has some good programs and great classes for me, but the best part is that they offer daycare for Kiersten while I can workout. This was a huge selling point for me, most clubs around here if they offered daycare, the child had to be 1 year old. Here she had to be 3 months, so we fibbed on her b-day a little to get her in. But this would allow time that I could be away from her. Although I love Kiersten with all my heart and adore the fact that I can stay home with her, after three months of non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a little time to myself is very welcomed and very needed to give her the right up-bringing. She did great though at the daycare. I put her in the swing, and she stayed in there for the majority of the time. The lady said that she got a little fussy and had to pick her up one time, but other than that she did great. That is a huge relief for me. I was so worried that she would insist on being held the whole time. We will see if she does the same as she did yesterday, I am going to go for a workout and then a Yoga class. Keep your finger’s crossed.

Nicknames

Everyone in the family always tell me that they have a hard time saying Kiersten and that they will have to come up with a nickname for her. While k-bear will always be my favorite, I am exploring using the nickname “kiki”. I think it is cute, it means little one in Hawaiian. I also came up with it because Kiersten always says kiki to me when she is making her gooling sounds. This is her way of talking back to me. So what do you think of the nickname? Brian doesn’t really like it, so we will see if it sticks. But then again, I am not too fond of his nickname for her “pooky butt”. - she will love him for that one when she gets older!

A sad but happy day!!

Every parent has one thing before their child is born that really puts it into perspective that a child will be here soon. For Brian and I, it wasn’t her crib, nor her stroller, but her bassinett. When Brian and I went to go purchase her bassinett and began to set it up it brought the whole reality to us that she will soon be with us. Well, this morning, I decided that it was time to take it down. Kiersten has done so well adapting to her crib, that she no longer needs to sleep with mommy and daddy. Although it symbolizes that she is growing, it also symbolizes that an end to a stage of her life. Guess it had to happen sometime. God, if I am having a hard time with the bassinett, what am I going to do when she goes away to college???

I am posting a picture that was up a couple of weeks ago, I am doing this because Brian’s dad said he was going to go to the library to see her website and I wanted to make sure he saw this picture since it is one of the best ones that she has taken yet! Got to love that smile!!!

DADDY AND K-BEAR

K-BEAR PLAYING IN THE CRIB.

Well, the family went ot church today, well kinda and there were no dirty diaper episodes like last week - which was a good thing because it would have been mom’s turn to do the dirty deed - literaly speaking. But we were not able to stay to long. Brian and I decided to go to the 9:30 service so that we could get some work done around the house and have time to go in the pool today. Kiersten did not like that too well. After her favorite part - the singing - was over with, she became fuss, then really fussy, then extremely fussy, so we decided to leave about 30 minutes into it. Which is ashame because the pastor was talking about what great things are going to happen to our church in the next couple of years. Guess I will just have to listen to the sermon online.

After some yard work, cleaning of the house and some swimming, Kiersten and Mommy decided to take a bath. She is getting big enough that she can go in the big bath tub. However with her not completly being able to sit up. Mommy needs to be in the bath tub with her. I am trying to get use to her taking a bath this way because when I go home for teo weeks, we will have to take baths like that at grandma’s. I sure hope that she is sitting up by then, we are working on that!

The other exciting thing that Kiersten, Brian and I did this weekend was go and get her first professional pictures done. Of course we did not go to a real expensive studio, like Olan Mills, just to Sears. I figured since we are going to get these every couple of months, why spend the money when you are likely to get the same pose out of her no matter how much money you spend. So Sears actually did a grat job. She really did not cry the whole time - well at least until the end. A perfect angel like always. We got some really cute pictures, and will be sending everyone some. We bought a big package of 48 pictures, plus another sheet with a really cute pose of her being naked under a cute blanket - -it really did turn out cute! Unfortunaly we will not get the pictures back until June 6th, but that will be in time before I go back up North to see everyone!

Well we had a great birthday celebration for Brian’s 30th. Everything turned out great including the Salmon dish (which if you want the recipe let me know, it was awesome) and the pineapple cake tasted great. I guess I can cook when I want to!
